Privacy Policy — CDL Test Prep

The short version

CDL Test Prep keeps your scores and settings on your own device. It has no accounts and never asks for your name, email or any other personal details. Three Google services inside the app use the network: Google AdMob shows the ads that keep the app free, Google Firebase tells us which screens are used and which errors happen so we can fix them, and Google Play offers updates and lets you rate the app. This page explains what each of them receives and how you control it.

This stays on your device. It is not uploaded or backed up by us, and we cannot read it. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes it.

Services that receive data

Google AdMob (advertising)

The Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app requests and shows ads. With each ad request it sends Google the Android advertising ID (a resettable identifier), information about your device (model, operating system version, language), the app's identity, and your IP address, from which an approximate location can be derived. Google uses this to choose and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraud, and may share it with its advertising partners. We receive only aggregate reports (ads shown, earnings) that identify no one.

Google Firebase (app statistics and crash reports)

Firebase Analytics records how the app is used: which screens are opened, when a practice test is started or finished (with a score range, never your answers), app version and device type. It uses an app instance ID and, where allowed, the advertising ID.
Firebase Crashlytics sends a report when the app crashes or hits an error: the error, device model, Android version and app version.
Firebase Remote Config lets us change settings (for example how often full-screen ads may appear) and show you a short message inside the app without an app update. They use a Firebase installation ID.

Firebase data is processed by Google on our behalf. We see it only as statistics and error reports, never linked to your name or contact details, because we do not have them.

Google Play (updates and ratings)

The app asks Google Play whether a newer version exists and can open Google Play's rating card. These features are handled by the Google Play Store app under your Google account and Google's terms; we do not receive your account details or the review before you publish it.

Advertising, the advertising ID, and your choices

Privacy and ad choices in the app. Open Settings (the gear at the top of the screen) and tap Privacy and ad choices to see and change the choices offered in your region.
Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Before any personalised ad is requested, the app asks for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform, a consent management platform certified by Google. If you decline, ads may still appear but are not personalised, and app statistics follow the same choice.
Reset or delete the advertising ID. On most Android devices: Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Settings → Google → Ads). Deleting it stops apps from receiving it.

Your rights in the United States

Residents of California and of other US states with consumer privacy laws (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and Oregon) have the right to know what personal information is collected, to ask for it to be deleted or corrected, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural (targeted) advertising.

What we collect: the identifiers and usage and device information described above (advertising ID, app instance and installation IDs, IP address and approximate location, app interactions, crash and diagnostic data). We do not collect names, contact details, precise location or sensitive personal information.
Why: to show and measure ads, to keep the app working and fix errors, and to understand which features are used.
Sale or sharing for targeted advertising: sending the advertising ID and device data to Google AdMob for personalised ads may count as "sharing" under California law. You can opt out at any time from Settings → Privacy and ad choices in the app, or by deleting your advertising ID. The app honours the choices you make in Google's consent and opt-out messages.
Requests: email us at the address below to ask what data is linked to your app installation or to have it deleted. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

Children

The app is a study aid for people preparing for commercial driver's license tests. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete any data linked to that installation.

Security and retention

All data sent by the app travels encrypted (HTTPS). Data held by Google is kept under Google's retention policies: Firebase Analytics keeps event data for at most 14 months under our settings, and Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days. We keep no copies on our own servers.

Permissions

Internet and network state	To load ads and to send statistics and error reports.
Advertising ID (AD_ID)	To read the advertising ID for ads, as described above.
Location, contacts, camera, microphone, files, phone, SMS, calendar	Not requested.

Not a government service

CDL Test Prep is an independent study app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any DMV, state licensing agency, the FMCSA or any other government agency. Its questions are written by us from the published CDL manuals; they are not real test questions.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the Last updated date at the top changes with it. Material changes, such as a new service or a new kind of data, will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
